Estonia
Estonia is a small country but a very interesting one. 16 years ago it became an independent nation again. The country has been occupied so many times that it has only known 22 years of independence in the last 500 years of its history. Now the Soviet army has gone and the tables have been well and truly turned. The Estonian economy is booming, annual growth is in double figures, the budget is in surplus, and Time magazine recently described the country as 'one of the most technologically advanced places on the planet'.
Before Independence a small number from our church went out to see what the possibility of preaching about the word of God would be like. The journey involved going by ice breaker boat and finding a few people who welcomed them to share time with them.
Over the years we have contacts in three main areas,Tallinn, Tartu, and Parnu. A group of three or four visit on six to eight week intervals staying in hotels guest houses or in contacts homes. We now have a small ecclesia formed in Tallinn the capital and have a website set up to help inform interested friends of talks and bible topics. We enjoy our times visiting all the people we meet and sharing time with them.Their lives have been completely different than ours but their need for the saving work of Christ is the same.
